CEM Holds Research Forum on Data Analytics and Quantitative Research Techniques

On November 13, 2017, the College of Economics and Management (CEM), University of the Philippines Los Baños (UPLB)  held its 5th CEM Research Forum at the REDREC Auditorium, CEM, UPLB. This year’s forum was themed “Advanced Analytics for Economics and Agribusiness Management towards a More Responsive Public Service.” The program was opened by Dr. Isabelita M. Pabuayon, CEM Dean and Dr. Fernando C. Sanchez, Jr., UPLB Chancellor, who delivered their welcome remarks and inspirational message, respectively.

The forum session started with the keynote presentation of Dr. Eugene Rex L. Jalao, Associate Professor from the Department of Industrial Engineering and Operations Research, College of Engineering, UP DIliman. In his presentation, Dr. Jalao discussed the concept of business analytics and its tools and applications to organizations.

Following the keynote presentation were three sessions of paper presentations of CEM faculty members and two invited speakers, namely Dr. Jerrold M. Tubay, Associate Professor at the Institute of Mathematical Science and Physics, College of Arts and Sciences and Dr. Klarizze Anne M. Puzon, Visiting Professor at UP Diliman and a researcher at the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences. The session papers featured different applications of data analytics to business management and financial markets and advanced quantitative techniques used in CEM researches.

The CEM Research Forum is an annual public research colloquium of the college. It serves as a venue for CEM faculty and REPS to share their knowledge, expertise and experiences in solving contemporary problems and issues in the field of economics, agricultural and applied economics, business management and entrepreneurship, and cooperatives through their researches. With this activity, CEM supports the University’s thrust of increasing scientific productivity and inspires faculty and REPS to improve the quality and quantity of their research work. It hopes to build a culture of research and promote the public service value of researches. KPQuilloy
