DAME Faculty members attend 1st USAID-STRIDE Case Teaching Workshop

Six faculty members from the Department of Agribusiness Management and Entrepreneurship (DAME), namely Asst. Prof. Jewel Joanna S. Cabardo, Asst. Prof. Mar B. Cruz, Asst. Prof. Arlene C. Gutierrez, Assoc. Prof. Jeanette Angeline B. Madamba, Asst. Prof. Nohreen Ethel P. Manipol and Asst. Prof. Normito R. Zapata, Jr., attended a three-day USAID Science, Technology, Research, and Innovation for Development (STRIDE) Case Teaching Workshop held at Diamond Hotel, Manila from April 3 to 5, 2017.

The workshop, which was organized by USAID-STRIDE in collaboration with the William Davidson Institute (WDI) of the University of Michigan aimed to introduce university faculty to the use of case method as a teaching pedagogy. The topics discussed in the workshop include the case and the case method, the case teaching process, facilitating case discussion as well as challenges that faculty members may experience in using cases in the classroom. Dr. Julie Felker, a faculty affiliate and senior consultant at WDI, served as the main resource speaker of the workshop. She was joined by Dr. Dinah Pura T. Depositario from DAME, CEM, UPLB and Dr. Rowena Paz Gelvezon from UP Visayas in facilitating the workshop.

The USAID-STRIDE Case Teaching Workshop was attended by 34 pre-selected participants from different universities and SUCs all over the Philippines. After the workshop, the participants are expected to conduct echo seminar on case teaching in their respective universities. This will be done to facilitate sharing of knowledge and teaching pedagogies across different disciplines.
