DAME Hosts a Seminar on Lean Supply Chain Management

On 7 May 2018, close to 120 UPLB students, faculty and staff attended the seminar on Lean Supply Chain Management given by Mrs. Marianita N. Domingo, the Senior Vice-President for Transportation and 3PL Management of LAZADA E-Services, Inc., the Philippines’ leading online shopping and selling platform.

Mrs. Domingo explained in detail the concept of lean supply chain management and its importance on firms’ profitability. She identified the different sources of wastes and the tools and techniques that can be used to avoid or minimize them. Industry trends and issues were also discussed such as business intelligence, express delivery and e-commerce logistics. She mentioned that one of the greatest challenges in the Philippines is logistics due mainly to poor internet connection, the lack of adequate infrastructure such as airports and seaports and the lack of capable supply chain practitioners.

The seminar was part of the CEM Seminar Series, a monthly seminar activity of the College which serves as a venue for sharing and discussing topics related to economics and agricultural economics, management, entrepreneurship and cooperatives. This month’s seminar was hosted by the Department of Agribusiness Management and Entrepreneurship (DAME). GUReyes
