Opening of CEM Math Bridge Program 2024

On 16 July 2024, the Learning Resource Center (LRC) of the OVCSA, together with CEM, opened its annual offering of Math 25 (Introduction to Calculus) bridge program. This is the fifth year that CEM and LRC hosted this event. This season, there are 104 CEM students who accepted the invitation to attend the program and they are from different courses here at CEM: BS Agricultural and Applied Economics, BS Agribusiness Management and Entrepreneurship, BS Economics, and CEM’s new program BS Accountancy.

The program aims to aid CEM students in learning and familiarizing themselves with Math 25 prior to their official entry into the University and the College. Math 25 is integral to a student’s journey here at CEM because it is part of all of CEM’s undergraduate curricular programs.

The event was graced by CEM’s very own Dean, Dr. Maria Angeles O. Catelo, Associate Dean Cherry Lou R. Nuñez, Department of Economics’ Chair, Dr. Gideon P. Carnaje, Department of Agribusiness Management and Entrepreneurship’s Chair Dr. Melodee Marciana E. de Castro, and LRC Director Dr. Mariyel Hiyas C. Liwanag. In her opening remarks, Dr. Catelo gave this message to the students: “For many of you, Math is perceived as a difficult and challenging course but you just have to keep an open mind and never stop learning because if you keep entertaining the thought that Math is difficult, then half of the battle is lost. Try to develop a growth or positive mindset and you will see that your abilities and intelligence can also be developed with effort and dedication. Remember that there is no short cut to success and success is sweet but it also entails sweat. No pain no gain. Ang nagwawagi ay hindi umaayaw at ang umaayaw ay hindi nagwawagi.” She motivated the ‘bridgers’ to adopt this mantra because their stay in the College/University will not be easy but as long as they don’t give up, they will surely reach the road to Sablay that every UP student is aiming for.

This four-week long learning activity will run from 17 July -12 August 2024.
