CEM Student Leader Selected as the 39th UP Student Regent
CEM Vision Plans (1)

Batch 2018 BS Agribusiness Management and Entrepreneurship student Siegfred Severino of the College of Economics and Management UPLB was proclaimed as the 39th Student Regent of the UP System.

Student Regent Severino’s first venture into student leadership in UP was way back in 2019, when he served as a councilor of the CEM Student Council where he was assigned as the Committee Head of the Students Rights and Welfare (STRAW) Committee and Community Rights and Welfare (CRAW) Committee. During his term as Councilor for STRAW and CRAW, he spearheaded activities for student development, launched campaigns forwarding student demands, and organized community integration with the basic and marginalized sectors. He was further appointed as Officer-In-Charge for the position of the CEM Representative to the USC.

On the onset of the pandemic in 2020, Student Regent Severino became the Chairperson of the UPLB CEM Student Council for a Holdover Term since no election was held due to the shift to online learning. He was able to capacitate the council despite the pandemic situation by streamlining council activities and functions, and extensive recruitment of SC volunteers and ex-officio appointees for the council.

In January 2021, he was selected by the 50th General Assembly of Student Councils (GASC) as the 38th UP Student Regent Second Nominee. Later on that year, he was elected as the Chairperson of the 42nd UPLB USC. During his term as USC Chair, he ensured that the focus of the council is to address prevailing student concerns on distance learning as well as campaign for a Ligtas na Balik Eskwela (LBE).

Last August 2022, in his second nomination, he was selected by the 53rd GASC as the 39th UP Student Regent.

Siegfred is the first Student Regent in seven years that does not hail from UP Diliman, the last being SR Neil Macuha in 2014, a fellow CEM student under the BS Economics program.

His plans for the Office of the Student Regent focus on three main points: students’ democratic rights and LBE campaign, the selection of the next UP President, and the continued fight against historical distortion of the Martial Law era.

SR Severino upholds honor and excellence in being the voice and representative of the iskolar ng bayan during his term.
